Hop Hop Hop

Happy Easter!!!

This cute roll cake was inspired from a very talented decororu creator, Junko.

Every year, I went to Singapore with my mom to deal with some stuff. This year we went separately. She was going with her angklung buddies. Let me explained something... In 2003 my dad got stroke and joined some stroke club to get some treatment. It was like school for people who got stroke and he went there almost everyday. They have angklung lesson every Wednesday. When my dad passed away in 2008, my mom still go to the the angklung lesson, to get socialize and gives courage or sometimes share her stories about how deal with stroke people.

So, my mom and her angklung buddies were going to Singapore on 19-21 April 2012. I was planning to accompany my mom but decided not to at the last minute. My other reason to go to Singapore was to watch Wicked but when I looked at their itinerary, it's impossible to separate myself if I was joining the group. So I went there with my lovely editor, Mrs Vanda-san.

At first I was only kidding when I asked her if she wanted to watch Wicked with me. Strangely enough she agreed and I let her decided the date since she was very busy. We agreed on 7-9 April 2012. We only got a week to booked everything. First the hotel, we got a very great deal at Hotel Fragrance Bugis, then the Wicked tickets show, and we got problem booking the plane tickets. Something about security code so we had to go to the Jet Star office to buy the tickets, it was 6 April 2012 we can bought from another airlines but theirs were the cheapest hehehe

First day at Singapore, we were greet by my friend, the sleepy stewardess, Elin hehehe she took us to have lunch at her fave dim sum place, Victor's Kitchen at Sunshine Plaza then showed us new home&lifestyle shop, King&King Wong at NEX after that visit the Henderson wave bridge before went to Marina Bay Sands.

Back to the hotel, my flat shoes finally reached it's limit hahahaha the sole broke maybe it's already broke since the beginning but I just noticed it at the Henderson wave bridge and hope it could survive until we got back to the hotel and it did, fiuuuhhhh, I can save myself from the embarrassment of walking bare feet ;p

Second day, we had breakfast at Ya Kun Kaya Toast at Bugis Junction basement foodcourt, went to Spotlight shop at Plaza Singapura to buy circle loom knitting for my mom and visited Mrs Vanda-san's relative at Mount Elizabeth Hospital then went to King&King Wong at NEX again to buy some cute glass jars before heading to Vivo City. Had dinner at the Food Republic and I met with my other friend NiQ and enjoying Fruit Paradise pies while Mrs Vanda-san enjoy the Song of The Sea show at Sentosa. She had a very very poor sense of direction, so I had to show her the way to Sentosa from Vivo City early that evening before she went there by herself that night. Luckily she managed not to get lost yaaaaay =))

Third and last day, we went to Bugis Junction to had breakfast at Toast Box. Checked out and put our luggage at the hotel reception and walked around the hotel to kill some time before we could check in our luggage at the airport. I just knew that our hotel was near the Bras Basah Complex so we went there. And I always know there's some craft shop that I was willing to visit every time I went to Singapore but never had the change and finally... finally I was there. Oh my, I was sooooo excited!!! I wish I can buy so many things but my luggage couldn't fit anything anymore and I was afraid of overweight since the hotel didn't have a scale aaaarrrrgghhhh...!!!

We also visited Popular and Basheer book shop and once again I had to maintain myself huhuhu those books... So tempting... Not to forget so many cheap second hand books around the complex... Must... Control... Myself... Uuurggghh...

Next time, next time I shall let myself shop till drop hahahaha

Later that night, after we back at Jakarta, Mrs Vanda-san forgot to claim the cufflinks that she bought at Bugis Junction for her husband hahahaha I asked NiQ if he's willing to get it for us since he was planning to go to Jakarta that weekend and the department store was near his place. I sent him map of where we bought it, roughly sketch of how it looked like, and the photo of the receipt. Luckily the department store's staff believe him and Mrs Vanda-san got her cufflinks the next Monday. As a token of appreciation, Mrs Vanda-san cooked some of her signature dish and gave it to me so I could pass it on to NiQ.

2 weeks later, it's mom's turn to enjoy Singapore, glad to hear that she also had fun. But then mom thought there's a little problem with our stuff and asked me to check if there any cheap flight to Singapore ASAP. It was April 1st 2012 and I found cheapest plane ticket on 3rd, 4th, 10th, and 11th April 2012. Mom picked the 3rd April and we just flew back to Singapore that instant hahahaha

It was sooooo funny because me and my mom always joke about going to Singapore only for 1 day like all jetsetter and we actually did it.

We went straight to Orchard road to have lunch at ION then deal with our stuff. After that, enjoying our time at Kinokuniya Takashimaya. I wished to find Harry Potter "bible" hahahaha and luckily I did hihihihi so happy and so heavy =))

There, my mom found Decororu book (I think that's what I heard when the shopkeeper told me) but it was in Japanese and there's some in Chinese. I asked if they have the same book in English but none. They told me to try and check her website for further information.

Since I didn't have the confidence in reading Japanese and my mom's Chinese also limited, I decided maybe later I could check the website. So I bought only the Harry Potter. When I wanted to pay, there's trouble with our credit card. I had to borrow my mom's money since I didn't bring enough.

Mom told me to check the card at the nearest bank, which was 1 km from Takashimaya. Since it was far, I let mom rest at Takashimaya food court at the basement. There was a Spring Hokkaido Festival. So much Japanese foooooooooods...! I always love Japanese food festival!!!

sooo soft... sooo cheesy... sooo yummy...

After a quick strolling, found my mom a chair to seat and order her some drinks, I went to the bank. Apparently I need passport to proceed which I cleverly enough to left inside my other bag with my mom *facepalm* I also left my cellphone there haizzz...

I went back to Takashimaya then let myself cool down by strolling around the festival once again. I saw some stall that sell Seafood Bento Box, I was begging the chef to sell me the bento box without the rice, I told him I was willing to pay the full price since I couldn't eat too much rice but he wouldn't do it hix I wanted to try the uni (sea urchin) and king crab's leg huhuhu I ended up buying the king crab's leg at the other stall, 1 pair for 10 SGD.

Gain some power and went back to the bank, this time with my mom, we walked as fast as we can because it already 3.30 PM, we afraid the bank will closed soon. We were right on time fiuuuhhhh...

After that, mom wanted to go to Bugis Junction so we did. We accidentally found a small shop at the corner of Bugis Junction food court that sell Japanese snacks on our way to have a break at Toast Box. I noticed a small triangle package of wasabi pistachio Ivy gave me a while ago. I love them, I don't like wasabi too much but I though those are unique.

wasabi, chilli, original, and seaweed

I also found some dried cuttlefish with sesame seed, one of funny snacks WaiWai gave me from her trip to Japan

Then, I showed my mom the Bras Basah Complex, she was fascinating by 1 needle set at The Art Friend, too bad it's a sharp object, we couldn't bring with us since we only brought cabin luggage. Next time, hopefully next time we had the change hehehe

At Bugis Junction, I bought Subway sandwich for our dinner. From there we went to Changi by MRT, I forgot it was the peak hour. A little crowded but we managed to get there just in time. While waiting for the plane, we ate the Subway sandwich, mom loved it. And since there was a 30 minutes delay, she asked me if there's any Subway counter in Changi and told me to buy 2 more to bring it back to Jakarta hahahaha

Ah ya, since I carried the Harry Potter book all the way, my arms got cramp hahahaha

Back in Jakarta, I checked Junko's website, she put some recipes and I used Google Translate to help me understanding those ingredients and directions, it said Heart-shaped Strawberry Cake Roll. I decided to try those on 6th April 2012. First attempt, failed. I think I was afraid that the dough will get burn so I used small fire. After 40 minutes of baking, it still not set and I accidently torned the cake because it still sticked to the wax paper.

Second attempt, failed, again. I forgot to put the flour hahahaha

Third time's a charm, and it did, although it's not as good as I was hoping for but I though it's okay :D

From 9 AM till 6 PM, I didn't know why I was so driven to make this roll cake hahahaha I had to clean every utensils every time I need to try new attempt, talking about determination hahahaha

There was some leftover egg yolks and whipping cream and still I didn't know why I pushed myself to make Frozen Parfait. I went to nearest supermarket to buy strawberries and still keep myself busy late night that day. Recipe from What's For Lunch, Honey? and I modified a bit.

Happy! Happy! Happy!

Happy New Year!!!

Happy Chinese New Year!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

I was trying to make s'more pie for new year's eve party but I didn't read the instruction carefully so the pie ended up little bit messy hahaha here's the pretty nice picture before I bake the pie. I bet some people already know why I went wrong :D

As for Chinese New Year, it's my mom favorite big day, I helped her prepare the foods for the open house. It was so hectic, I didn't have time to take the pictures of the meals so here's the picture of my mom traditional must have snacks at CNY. It was taken right before all the guests arrived. 9 AM - 9 PM. What a day...

Last but not least, Valentine's Day. I'm single but I love love love all pink things hahaha I love cute and lovely things also. I though V-Day should be my day =))

Here's some love :)

It's red velvet with cream cheese frosting. Thank you Bake It in a Cake for the wonderful idea!

Chocolate Chip Cookies and Oreo Marshmallow with Brownies

First of all, Merry Christmas!!!

This Christmas I didn't make any Christmas theme cake so here's my last year 3d Christmas tree Gingerbread Cookies that I forgot to upload...

Hehehe it was for the Little Betsy Baker's Christmas Cookie Competition - 2010

Also there was a big Sweet 16th party where it was the first time I made real cake topsy turvy with my friend, Ivy, one hell of talented-"COD"-baker/cake decorator hahaha

Not forget the tiffany blue rose swirl cupcakes...

Great cake and cupcakes to end the 2010!!!

So for 2011, I was planning to make some dessert table (been in love with them lately) but since I've been so busy, I crossed that from my list hix

1 week before Christmas, I suddenly got invitation to my friend's potluck-Christmas eve-dinner-party. It's just s cover up party so all of us can gather together since nobody really celebrate Christmas hahaha

Everybody had to bring their own cooking, I though it was a great time to finally try The Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie n’ Oreo Fudge Brownie Bar wooohoooooo \(^o^)/ I was so excited!

On 20 December, I made the CCC dough when suddenly on 22 December, my co-worker asked if I can make the Chocolate Chunk Cookies for her. I couldn't say no because I know she really love them. Haizzz in the middle of busy dateline, I made another batch of CCC and baked them tomorrow afternoon so my co-worker can enjoy them with her family before they went for vacation.

24 December morning, had to meet with my friend's aunt to discuss her wedding party (she asked me if I could contribute any idea) after that had lunch with my mum and back home. It was 3 PM, I started making the Chewy Brownies dough then assemble the layers; CCC then Oreos then marshmallows and then brownies.

I bake them for 20 mins and then 30 mins and suddenly my heart beat fast, where did I go wrong? Why they not cooked yet? I opened the website and read the instruction again, it took 40-45 mins to be ready. Oh nooo, I made 2 batch, I'll be late for the party!!!

But luckily I arrived at my friend's house just right in time when they start eating hahaha I accidentally left my camera at home when I was taking pictures so I can only said the food was delicious!!! There was spicy bolognese spaghetti with pork and prawns, medanesse chicken curry and potatoes, fruits cocktail, spam ham sandwich, baked banana with nutella and 1 bucket of KFC chicken since one of them were too lazy to cook hahahaha then, we went karaoke until 3 AM.

Happy Holiday guys!!!

FloLady with Pink&Blue and Totoro Puff

So much had happened for one month.
Let see...
First, I won the Suddenly Ghost Master Competition 2011

\(^o^)/ ~yaaaaaaaaaay!!!

So they allowed me to pick one of their t-shirt design, FloLady, I choose you!!! Fufufu here's me, try to make the photo looked mysterious but still pretty and flowery like the FloLady ;p

muach muach muach thank you suddenly :*

Later on, Munchees had our first 2 tiers wedding cake order.

\(^o^)/ ~yaaaaaaaaaay again!!!

Luckily the bride and groom let us designed what's best for them. They only ask for pink and blue as the theme color.

lovely soft colors

We actually finished a lot faster than our schedule but something happen at night. The fondant at the bottom cake started to crack and puff a little bit. My friend wanted to reassemble the cake but I was too tired, it's 11 PM, we already worked for almost 16 hours. I asked her to wait. If things got worst tomorrow morning, then we should reassemble the cake.

Well, it was. The upper cake also started to crack and puff. While I was driving as fast as I can to her house (we lived nearly 20 km apart), she repaired the upper cake. So when I arrived, I tried to rearrange the little flowers, put a lot more little flowers at the bottom cake as fast as I can. We didn't know what to do with the bottom cake, the only way was prayed for the best hahaha

We arrived too early at the wedding venue. The AC still off, no sign of the the bride and groom, we had to wait inside the car for 1 hour and the fondant started to melt, oh noooooooooooooo!!! We tried our best to prevent the fondant from too much melting but it will only worked for temporary.

We still worried when we presented the wedding cake to the bride and groom. But since they're going to start the wedding ceremony soon, me and my friend could only hope that the cake could last until the cutting scene. We had to leave to somewhere else since we're not invited hehehe

Luckily, the cake survived...
When we came back to collect the cake stands, the bride was really pleased. She and everybody loved the lovely decoration and the cake tasted delicious, everybody seem want a piece. The only thing she felt sorry was not ordering more cupcakes :)

Fiuuuuh... That's a relieved hahaha

It's been 2 weeks after the wedding cake misery. I was so very busy, work here and there, this and that, but suddenly I found this cute Totoro Cream Puff when I was surfing the web. I WANT TO MAKE THAAAAAAT!!! And I did! Hahaha the hell with work, I need a break.

Thank goodness for the internet!
Found a fabulous web that shared the recipe and tutorial in no time, Anna The Red. Went straight to the kitchen and so lucky that I have all the ingredients. Time to bake!!! *BIG GRIN*

It was late (around 10 PM) but I didn't care. There's no rules when or where you want to bake a cake, right? Riiiiight??? Hehehe I failed at my first attempt. Maybe because I'm too excited and not read the tutorial carefully or maybe because too exhausted from stir the dough hahaha anyhow... I tried again the next morning and I saw many Totoro.

totoro totoro *humming the totoro song*

puff! puff! puff!

totoro puffs! so happy when they puffed! \(^0^)/

Thank you Anna The Red!!!

Pygmalion Chocolate Rum Cake

Wanna try my new dome shaped cake pan and don't know what kind of cake to make. Then suddenly I saw my friend's company logo, PygmalionFashion Shop and BAM! I'm gonna made her a bird cage cake. Her birthday was in 4 days and her wedding day was the next day. It was gonna be a grrreat surprise for her.

I was making sure her schedule with her fiance. I know the situation gonna be hectic on the day before the big day. So, if I couldn't show the cake directly to her, then I had to leave it at her house but I didn't wanna do thaaaaat, I wanna see her face when I surprise her hehe luckily the groom-to-be was nice and really co-operate :D

A little problem when I was baking the dome shaped cake. I though since the dough a little bit thick, I had to bake it slowly with small fire. But after 15 mins, the cake didn't rise. I turned up the heat and it rise so high and cracked hahahaha

Other than that, everything else was going according to my plan, my calculation was correct. I was using 30x30 square pan to make 4 round cake (d=15cm) for the body of the bird cake and 1 dome shaped pan (h=7cm) to make the upper section of the bird cage cake. No trouble when covering the cake with fondant, fiuuuuh... And also I manage to finish it faster than my original plan woohoooo!!!

Time to surprise the birthday-bride-to-be hihihi

On the way to the surprise scene, which is surprisingly no traffic, I picked up a friend which I just suddenly called and asked to join me that afternoon hahaha everything was so sudden. We went to the rented apartment, I carried the bird cage cake, she knocked the door, the door was open, and there's the birthday-bride-to-be. She was surprise to see the both of us and I also surprise when I saw her sitting on floor with scatter flowers everywhere hahahaha she was making her own wedding bouquet.

She didn't realize the cake was her company logo until she stripped the box. Then she went crazy, grabbed her phone and started taking pictures, with flowers, without flowers hahahaha glad she likes it :)

Little Monsters Cupcakes

Been very very busy lately huhuhu so here's some quick review of some things that happened between December 2010 until March 2011 ;p

In December, I worked together with my beautiful and talented friend who also has a passion for decorating cake. Our best friend's little sister was having Alice in Wonderland Sweet 16th Party. We took charge in making the birthday cake and we choose to make Topsy Turvy Mad Hatter cake. It's our first time working together and our first time making topsy turvy cake. We looked so many videos, read so many books, texts, writing, anything about how to make topsy turvy cake for dummies hahaha

My friend already bake the cake so I went to her place very early in the morning just to decorate it. It took almost 16 hours just to decorate the cake, my oh my... We present the cake to the birthday girl on the next day. She was really happy so did both of us, tired but very pleased with the result :)

topsy turvy mad hatter chesire cat cake

and here's the Blue Rose Cupcakes

In January, we worked together again for 1 month baby anniversary cake. We had to make 12 mini cakes and 50 boxes of 4 cupcakes in just 2 days. Thank goodness everything finished just in time. Many people came to help us :')

it's a baby girl

Later in January, I received some call for my friend's friend, she wanted to discuss about farewell gift for our friend who was going to Rotterdam. She gave me blank note book and asked me to draw some characters from their circle of friends at the cover and also some comic about them inside the note book. She told me everything about them, who to draw, what they do, their hobbies etc. But it's not enough for the comic part.

I only got 3 days to draw and thanks to the internet, everybody pitching in some funny stories about them and my friend who's leaving to Rotterdam. And I manage to finished just in time

a recycle note book from recycle paper by unicef

Nothing much happened in February except my birthday that didn't feel like a birthday because I was busy to work and because it's 1 day before the Chinese New Year hahaha everybody focus on the big CNY celebration :))

Oh, my neighbour adopt new puppy named Bruno, soooooo cute \(>v<)/

I made this Little Monsters Cupcakes 3 days ago for my editor's sons.

Chocolate Cheesecake Optical Illusion

Weird title? Yeah, I just realized that the below plate looks as big as the upper one hahaha truth is, it's 1/4 smaller.

Made this for my friend's potluck thanksgiving dinner. Rumor said many people bring dessert, but what harm can be done by 1 more chocolate cheesecake, ay? ;p

Halloween Cake Pop

2 more days before Halloween…

2 more days before the end of Little Betsy Baker’s Halloween Cake Pops Competition and I just sent my entry this morning fufufu

I started to collect every info that I need to make cake pops on Wednesday night (http://www.bakerella.com/. She’s so talented!!!), bought some ingredients and preparing the paper dolls. I made a draft of the halloween character I want to make, which character with which colored coating and which colored fondant to use. This is what I hope my Cake Pops to be...

I baked on Thursday morning and continue until late night. This is my first time make cake pops and like most of first timer, everything was a disaster hahaha

First, I couldn’t coat the cake pops smoothly. I dipped it again and again. And I also used palette knife but it didn’t do much help. I guess there’s something wrong with my candy melts, or maybe it’s just my-stupid-self hahaha

Second, some cake balls slide from the top of the stick to the styrofoam. And I was just thinking, “why did I put it upside down?” hahaha it was midnight and I couldn’t think straight.

Third, I didn’t know to make each cake pops really took time, in the end of the day I only manage to decorate 10 cake pops of 5 characters :(

Fourth, this morning, when I want to take their pictures, THEY FELL!!! OOOHHH NNNOOOOOOOOO!!!
I already sticked them to their cupcakes, put them on the tray so I can remove them from the dining table to living room (my living room at morning has more sunlight than dining room, so I can took better picture). They fell a second before they arrived at my DIY tabletop studio huhuhuhuhu

If you looked closely, you’ll notice that the vampire head’s were oval and he’s a little bit shorter than the others. The mummy’s stick pass through his head. And Frankenstein, oh Frankenstein, dear Frankenstein, the accident hit him hardest. He broke his left leg, lost his bolts, and cracked his head. But he’s ok. He’s ok. He’s one true survivor. Strong Frankenstein he is.

Hahahahahaha trick or treat…!!!

Swiss Swirl Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cake

I accidentally found this recipe when I surfed the net. It looks really nice and I think it will be very yummy and hope it will be a lovely belated birthday cake for my dearest silly friend :)

My first attempt on making the roll cake was a disaster. The web said to devide the mixture into 2 baking pans equally. I did that... I think hahaha the cake was too thin at 1 of the baking pans. When I remove the baking paper, the cake still attached to the paper and got tear up :(
The cake at the second baking pans was okay. I carefully rolled them since it too was really thin.

I then make another roll cake since one rolled roll cake didn't enough for 1 bowl. This time I used wider baking pan (hahaha my other stupid mistake). The cake turned out not really thin this time but not normal either, a little bit too big maybe hahaha if you look at the picture you'll know what I mean :D

The roll cakes at the bottom have less roll than the upper roll cakes hahaha anyway, I didn't do anything with the ice cream. To tell the truth, I'm too tired to mixed the ice cream ;p

So, the final result;
1 layer of chocolate roll cake
1 layer of whipped cream
1 layer of chocolate chip ice cream
1 layer of chocolate ganache
and another layer of chocolate chip ice cream

Hmmmmmmmm... ;9

Exactly 1 month after your birthday, silly Wai hahaha hope you like it!!!

Silly Batman & Catwoman

A friend asked me to make a cake with Batman and Catwoman fondant figure.
My first reaction, "You want what...?!"
Hahahaha I told her I couldn't make a cool-awesome figure, the Batman and Catwoman will looked silly, very very silly in my hand. But she said it's okay, it was just for fun.
Well then, it's our funeral.

Batman corporate colors is black and yellow. Yellow fondant is easy. But Black fondant... (-_____________________-)
My hands almost fell off from kneading it. In the middle of kneading, I ran out of black food coloring so I mixed all the food coloring I had. And them come the next disaster, the black fondant became too sticky and a little bit too soft to be shaped, too much liquid food coloring. Not to mention about the wrong size of the head. Aaaarrggghhhh I frustrated!!!

Breath in... Breath out... Sing some song out loud and let's started again :D

So here's it is, the Silly Batman & Catwoman cake.

Sachiko

Pink! Pink! Pink! All Pink for 1 year old Sachiko \(^o^)/
The proud mama is my high school friend's older sister. At first she wanted cupcakes to celebrate the happy day and asked me to make some examples.

But then she changed her mind and asked for 7 inch-round cake. She showed me some picture of the cake she wanted to be. I don't feel too good to copy someone else's cake but the customer is a king, right? Beside, the example cake was so pretty, I don't think I can keep up with that hahahaha

And this was the best I can do :)

Papoy!!!

I got brainwashed by that word hahaha a line that been said by 1 cute minion from the movie Despicable Me.

This week, a dear friend of mine had been craving for my chocolate ganache cupcakes for a while. And there's this lunatic woman asked me to make "Mr. Happy" cupcakes for her friend's bachelorette party. I was planning to craved the "Mr. Happy" from a cake but it was too big for cupcakes decoration so I just made them from a lot of buttercream.

Since I got too many cake left. So I decided to make a minion. Papoy!!!
I forgot which one is this. I only remember Kevin, the one that had been shrunk by Gru. My favorite is the one that glow in the dark, after he had been cracked and shook by his friend inside the wind tunnel hahahaha

Then, since there was a little bit cake crumbs from craving the cake, I made them into simple rum balls covered with chocolate sprinkles. Round 1...
