Konnichiwa Japan~

JAPAN!

It's been my DREAM to come and visit this beautiful, magnificent, wonderful country... And then, after 5 years of saving money, one of my DREAM finally came trueee...

I traveled with my 2 friends. After long discussion, we decided just to visit 3 city; Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. Since we're not backpackers (and not young anymore), visiting too many cities gonna take a lot of effort hehehe and we got no problem with the airplane ticket, gonna arrived in Osaka then departure from Tokyo, perfect. 3 days in Osaka, 3 days in Kyoto and 6 days in Tokyo, YAY!

It took 3-4 months preparation. My job was to gather information and make itinerary. I took the liberty to make a very detailed one; which bus, which subway, how long it's gonna be and a draft of daily expenses for transportation and tickets show. Oh, and an option in case plan A B or C not working. Like I said before, a VERY DETAILED one. Fell free to contact me if you want to see it ;)

This are some useful website that I used to look for references

My friend D, was supposed in charge of booking hotel, since she got a lot of requirements. And our friend A, was supposed in charge of slashing her credit card hahahaha
D was a Disney fans, she requested we should go to both Disneyland and Disneysea and also stay at their resort. So, Tokyo Disney Resort is our first booked hotel. Only for 2 days, just before we're back to Jakarta.

Many of our friend recommended that we should stay at ryokan (traditional Japanese house) and enjoy outdoor onsen (hot spring). But since D is too shy to get naked, we scratched that from our list hahaha but I still want to experience ryokan...

And then I heard about this website, airbnb. It's like a website that give you information to search and book a hotel/hostel, but instead of hotel/hostel it's local house/apartment with local host. How great is that?! And I found a nice place to stay in the middle of Kyoto. It's not like a typical ryokan with this and that service, onsen, nor dinner/breakfast but it's a Japanese traditional house. Just like in comic books hahaha

We booked the ~ kyoto garden house great ~ and I'll tell you more about it later. Oh, if anybody interested in booking some place using airbnb, call me, I have some airbnb voucher to spare ;)

We still need to book 2 more hotel, in Osaka and Tokyo. In the middle of hotel searching, my cousin told me about this travel club, dreamtrips. It said that they will always give the cheapest price for every travel facility; airplane ticket, hotel, car rental, etc. If there's any website that  give cheaper price than them, they will pay the differences. And I'm hooked! Hahaha I join the club, became their members and planning to use it to book some hotel. Yeah!

Since D was a little busy back then, the search of our hotel had been stalled for at least 1 month before our departure time... And resulting us in panic mode! It was very hard to find triple room or any twin room with extra bed since most of Japanese hotel has compact room. Most affordable hotel were booked and full.

I found some affordable hotel in dreamtrips website which what they said was true, they offer almost $7-$12 cheaper per night. But since D was in a great panic state, she already booked some hotel through a travel agency. Ah well, that too bad....... In case anybody interested about the dreamtrips, don't hesitate to contact me ;)

That's it!

All set!

JAPAN, here I comeee...!!!

Massie Marshmallow

Oh dear, it's been a year since the last Ghost Master Competition. Time sure flies by fast.

Here's my entry for Ghost Master Competition 2012.
Massie Marshmallow the Ghost.

Made that really fast, speed light fast hahahaha the competition ended April 13th 2012 and that Friday morning, ghostgirl (one of Suddenly Sudden creator) asked if I would participate for this year competition. I didn't notice that day was the last day of competition, I had to make something, I had to make it fast.

2 years ago I made some serious illustration, Beverly Adams. Oh dear, I really need to polish my digital illustration expertise hahaha last year I made a funny comic about moments when you really need something and you knew you had it and put it somewhere but you just couldn’t find it. You searched here and there, almost frustrated, and suddenly it was in front of your eyes. I always wonder how did that happened? And I’m sure that other people also had experience like that hahaha that’s the story behind the creation of Clifton and Miss Danielle.

This year, I had to make something else. I was planning to bake some scary cake but it will be time consuming. I looked for inspiration and found marshmallow. Could I make something scary from something cute? First idea was to make another comic but using photos instead of hand drawing. I already had the storyline inside my head. But since I didn’t have colorful marshmallow and too lazy to buy them, I just had to draw again but I made vector illustration so it would be different from last year hand drawing :D

Hop Hop Hop

Happy Easter!!!

This cute roll cake was inspired from a very talented decororu creator, Junko.

Every year, I went to Singapore with my mom to deal with some stuff. This year we went separately. She was going with her angklung buddies. Let me explained something... In 2003 my dad got stroke and joined some stroke club to get some treatment. It was like school for people who got stroke and he went there almost everyday. They have angklung lesson every Wednesday. When my dad passed away in 2008, my mom still go to the the angklung lesson, to get socialize and gives courage or sometimes share her stories about how deal with stroke people.

So, my mom and her angklung buddies were going to Singapore on 19-21 April 2012. I was planning to accompany my mom but decided not to at the last minute. My other reason to go to Singapore was to watch Wicked but when I looked at their itinerary, it's impossible to separate myself if I was joining the group. So I went there with my lovely editor, Mrs Vanda-san.

At first I was only kidding when I asked her if she wanted to watch Wicked with me. Strangely enough she agreed and I let her decided the date since she was very busy. We agreed on 7-9 April 2012. We only got a week to booked everything. First the hotel, we got a very great deal at Hotel Fragrance Bugis, then the Wicked tickets show, and we got problem booking the plane tickets. Something about security code so we had to go to the Jet Star office to buy the tickets, it was 6 April 2012 we can bought from another airlines but theirs were the cheapest hehehe

First day at Singapore, we were greet by my friend, the sleepy stewardess, Elin hehehe she took us to have lunch at her fave dim sum place, Victor's Kitchen at Sunshine Plaza then showed us new home&lifestyle shop, King&King Wong at NEX after that visit the Henderson wave bridge before went to Marina Bay Sands.

Back to the hotel, my flat shoes finally reached it's limit hahahaha the sole broke maybe it's already broke since the beginning but I just noticed it at the Henderson wave bridge and hope it could survive until we got back to the hotel and it did, fiuuuhhhh, I can save myself from the embarrassment of walking bare feet ;p

Second day, we had breakfast at Ya Kun Kaya Toast at Bugis Junction basement foodcourt, went to Spotlight shop at Plaza Singapura to buy circle loom knitting for my mom and visited Mrs Vanda-san's relative at Mount Elizabeth Hospital then went to King&King Wong at NEX again to buy some cute glass jars before heading to Vivo City. Had dinner at the Food Republic and I met with my other friend NiQ and enjoying Fruit Paradise pies while Mrs Vanda-san enjoy the Song of The Sea show at Sentosa. She had a very very poor sense of direction, so I had to show her the way to Sentosa from Vivo City early that evening before she went there by herself that night. Luckily she managed not to get lost yaaaaay =))

Third and last day, we went to Bugis Junction to had breakfast at Toast Box. Checked out and put our luggage at the hotel reception and walked around the hotel to kill some time before we could check in our luggage at the airport. I just knew that our hotel was near the Bras Basah Complex so we went there. And I always know there's some craft shop that I was willing to visit every time I went to Singapore but never had the change and finally... finally I was there. Oh my, I was sooooo excited!!! I wish I can buy so many things but my luggage couldn't fit anything anymore and I was afraid of overweight since the hotel didn't have a scale aaaarrrrgghhhh...!!!

We also visited Popular and Basheer book shop and once again I had to maintain myself huhuhu those books... So tempting... Not to forget so many cheap second hand books around the complex... Must... Control... Myself... Uuurggghh...

Next time, next time I shall let myself shop till drop hahahaha

Later that night, after we back at Jakarta, Mrs Vanda-san forgot to claim the cufflinks that she bought at Bugis Junction for her husband hahahaha I asked NiQ if he's willing to get it for us since he was planning to go to Jakarta that weekend and the department store was near his place. I sent him map of where we bought it, roughly sketch of how it looked like, and the photo of the receipt. Luckily the department store's staff believe him and Mrs Vanda-san got her cufflinks the next Monday. As a token of appreciation, Mrs Vanda-san cooked some of her signature dish and gave it to me so I could pass it on to NiQ.

2 weeks later, it's mom's turn to enjoy Singapore, glad to hear that she also had fun. But then mom thought there's a little problem with our stuff and asked me to check if there any cheap flight to Singapore ASAP. It was April 1st 2012 and I found cheapest plane ticket on 3rd, 4th, 10th, and 11th April 2012. Mom picked the 3rd April and we just flew back to Singapore that instant hahahaha

It was sooooo funny because me and my mom always joke about going to Singapore only for 1 day like all jetsetter and we actually did it.

We went straight to Orchard road to have lunch at ION then deal with our stuff. After that, enjoying our time at Kinokuniya Takashimaya. I wished to find Harry Potter "bible" hahahaha and luckily I did hihihihi so happy and so heavy =))

There, my mom found Decororu book (I think that's what I heard when the shopkeeper told me) but it was in Japanese and there's some in Chinese. I asked if they have the same book in English but none. They told me to try and check her website for further information.

Since I didn't have the confidence in reading Japanese and my mom's Chinese also limited, I decided maybe later I could check the website. So I bought only the Harry Potter. When I wanted to pay, there's trouble with our credit card. I had to borrow my mom's money since I didn't bring enough.

Mom told me to check the card at the nearest bank, which was 1 km from Takashimaya. Since it was far, I let mom rest at Takashimaya food court at the basement. There was a Spring Hokkaido Festival. So much Japanese foooooooooods...! I always love Japanese food festival!!!

sooo soft... sooo cheesy... sooo yummy...

After a quick strolling, found my mom a chair to seat and order her some drinks, I went to the bank. Apparently I need passport to proceed which I cleverly enough to left inside my other bag with my mom *facepalm* I also left my cellphone there haizzz...

I went back to Takashimaya then let myself cool down by strolling around the festival once again. I saw some stall that sell Seafood Bento Box, I was begging the chef to sell me the bento box without the rice, I told him I was willing to pay the full price since I couldn't eat too much rice but he wouldn't do it hix I wanted to try the uni (sea urchin) and king crab's leg huhuhu I ended up buying the king crab's leg at the other stall, 1 pair for 10 SGD.

Gain some power and went back to the bank, this time with my mom, we walked as fast as we can because it already 3.30 PM, we afraid the bank will closed soon. We were right on time fiuuuhhhh...

After that, mom wanted to go to Bugis Junction so we did. We accidentally found a small shop at the corner of Bugis Junction food court that sell Japanese snacks on our way to have a break at Toast Box. I noticed a small triangle package of wasabi pistachio Ivy gave me a while ago. I love them, I don't like wasabi too much but I though those are unique.

wasabi, chilli, original, and seaweed

I also found some dried cuttlefish with sesame seed, one of funny snacks WaiWai gave me from her trip to Japan

Then, I showed my mom the Bras Basah Complex, she was fascinating by 1 needle set at The Art Friend, too bad it's a sharp object, we couldn't bring with us since we only brought cabin luggage. Next time, hopefully next time we had the change hehehe

At Bugis Junction, I bought Subway sandwich for our dinner. From there we went to Changi by MRT, I forgot it was the peak hour. A little crowded but we managed to get there just in time. While waiting for the plane, we ate the Subway sandwich, mom loved it. And since there was a 30 minutes delay, she asked me if there's any Subway counter in Changi and told me to buy 2 more to bring it back to Jakarta hahahaha

Ah ya, since I carried the Harry Potter book all the way, my arms got cramp hahahaha

Back in Jakarta, I checked Junko's website, she put some recipes and I used Google Translate to help me understanding those ingredients and directions, it said Heart-shaped Strawberry Cake Roll. I decided to try those on 6th April 2012. First attempt, failed. I think I was afraid that the dough will get burn so I used small fire. After 40 minutes of baking, it still not set and I accidently torned the cake because it still sticked to the wax paper.

Second attempt, failed, again. I forgot to put the flour hahahaha

Third time's a charm, and it did, although it's not as good as I was hoping for but I though it's okay :D

From 9 AM till 6 PM, I didn't know why I was so driven to make this roll cake hahahaha I had to clean every utensils every time I need to try new attempt, talking about determination hahahaha

There was some leftover egg yolks and whipping cream and still I didn't know why I pushed myself to make Frozen Parfait. I went to nearest supermarket to buy strawberries and still keep myself busy late night that day. Recipe from What's For Lunch, Honey? and I modified a bit.

Pulau Pari (Stingray Island)

Last Saturday an old friend of mine suddenly asked if I want to go to Pulau Pari to replace him. At first I had to refuse the offer since I was suppose to have family gathering this Saturday but then mum agreed to change the date so I can go to Pulau Pari.

My last visit to an island was 10 years ago, I went to Ujung Kulon. Traveling to an island need extra attentions, almost like camping. You have to bring your own portable stove, foods, water, sleeping bag, etc. A little inconvenient but the view is always breathtaking :)

ujung kulon 2002

Luckily, this trip we stayed at some local villager's houses and they provide us with foods and water.

Meeting point was Port of Muara Angke at 6 PM. I met up with the rest of the team, it's 15 of us. We hopped to some fisherman's boat and try to squeeze ourselves with 70 other people. Try to make ourselves comfortable and get some sleep so we wouldn't get seasick.

Arrived at Pulau Pari around 9 AM. Walking around the island, had some lunch, then went snorkeling at 1 PM until 4 PM. Clean ourselves then had dinner and BBQ. End of day 1.

Breakfast at 9 PM but we had to cycle to Pasir Perawan (Virgin Sand), plant some mangrove then get back and packed our belongings while waiting our boat to go back to Jakarta. Such a short trip but all of us had fun \(^v^)/ and got sun tan for sure ;p

Happy! Happy! Happy!

Happy New Year!!!

Happy Chinese New Year!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

I was trying to make s'more pie for new year's eve party but I didn't read the instruction carefully so the pie ended up little bit messy hahaha here's the pretty nice picture before I bake the pie. I bet some people already know why I went wrong :D

As for Chinese New Year, it's my mom favorite big day, I helped her prepare the foods for the open house. It was so hectic, I didn't have time to take the pictures of the meals so here's the picture of my mom traditional must have snacks at CNY. It was taken right before all the guests arrived. 9 AM - 9 PM. What a day...

Last but not least, Valentine's Day. I'm single but I love love love all pink things hahaha I love cute and lovely things also. I though V-Day should be my day =))

Here's some love :)

It's red velvet with cream cheese frosting. Thank you Bake It in a Cake for the wonderful idea!

Paper Quilling

Twinkle twinkle little stars,
sorry I'm not visiting you lately,
been away to Bali from early August until early September,
since then I've been busy with works and events,
I'll upload some stories and photos later ;)

2 weeks ago, on Thursday night, I just got invitation to my friend's bridal shower from her sister in law aka AS (the one that used to be the bride from Gotcha!!! story). The party was on Sunday but she didn't have any plan on anything except for the food and she asked for my help.

A couple of month ago, I helped my friend RD preparing a bridal shower. So, I still remember what to do. First, plan some games, then decorate the room. I just gave some ideas and AS just agreed almost on everything.

We met on Friday noon to buy some supplies to decorate the room and started the project at night. Since there was only the 3 of us (me, AS, and PP) I try to make some simple decoration with crepe paper. I showed them how to cut and stick those papers. We worked from 8PM until 11PM, we tired but we had fun and happy with the design.

the theme color was red and blue and I insisted on making the pompoms hahaha

On Sunday morning, the bridesmaid brought balloons and banner, made the room more merrier \(^0^)/ The shower went well, everybody had fun despite some problem with the air conditioner (maybe I got talent to become Event Organizer hihihi)

The bride was very happy especially when she opened all the presents. Speaking of present... I didn't have time to buy present for her, uuuuugh, sorry dear (>_<) and I didn't know what to give to her since everybody already gave everything. While I was searching for ideas, somehow paper quilling crossed my mind. And I just instantly like the idea of making a simple initial of the bride and the groom.

For thousand of time, I rely on google to help me find some idea and it never disappointed me. Found this PDF Download for Quilled Alphabet from Quilling Patch. Thank you dear Lisa for sharing these fantastic pattern
\(^o^)/ ~yaaaaay

made a little bit adjustment since the original pattern was too complicated for me ;p

To lovely bride and groom, may you enjoy the new beginning of your life and live a happy married life.

Banzai!!!

I always love Japanese culture, not sure why. Maybe because of my dad. He was working for Japan company. Sometime he reminiscence about his days when he was in Japan or about the stories that his Japanese boss told to him. Usually we got Christmas and New Year's card from his boss, I found they were very unique and interesting. I still kept some of them :D

My dad introduced me to my first sushi. LOVED them and still do. Too bad they're very expensive when I was a kid. Not much of a choice either. Just the traditional salmon, tuna, tamago, tako, and unagi. Me and brother had to share all of them. So we had to cut them in half. The hardest part was the tako hahaha

I vaguely remembered my first anime, somewhere around Minky Momo and Red&Blue Shadowed Ninja (the TV station translated into our local language, never knew their real title). And then there's Saint Seiya and Doraemon, Candy Candy, and so on.

Then there was the first Japanese drama TV series, Oshin. The whole country seem like being hypnotized by her. Almost everybody knew about it although not much could remembered the story hehe after that there's Tokyo Love Story, Ordinary People and so on.

Popcorn or Seito Shokun was my first manga. The content was too complicated for me as a little kid, I didn't really understand about the story back then. When I read them again as a teenager, I cried. And then there's Sailor Moon!!! I went crazy over this particular manga. It was the reason why I seriously started to learn how to draw. I taught myself. Layer by layers of paper, hour by hours of practice hahaha I even stayed up late to make my own manga aaaaah the good old time :D

Most of the Japanese things I knew was from manga, anime, and Japanese movie. That's why, around 7 or 8 years ago, when I heard about some kind of Japanese-look-alike-event was going to be held near my place, I told myself, MUST GO THERE! Forgot what's it called, it was supposed to be similar to Matsuri. I only remembered that I was overwhelmed by everything.

Here's what I remembered... The event was only for 2 or maybe 3 days and I went there twice. The first day, me and my friend came early. Just went there straight after our classes ended. It was at an open field. Many booth stand side by side with 1 big stage to make it like a rectangle shape if you saw it from the sky.

If I'm not mistaken, the booths was very simple, not much of Japanese writing or decoration. I think most were written in alphabet. But 1 thing for sure, the grrreat smell that filled the air was extra ordinary hahaha I tried almost all of the menu, Takoyaki, Ikayaki, Yakisoba and then I fell in love with 1 particular food or drink to be exact... KAKIGORI! Love ♥ Love ♥ Love it!!!

After finished the first glass, I knew I had to got another one, but maybe later after tried another food. Second glass still as refreshing as the first one. Go munched another food and watched the Mikoshi parade. I had to borrowed my friend's money to buy the third glass. And when the sun set and everybody decided to go home, I asked to borrowed my friend's money again and he didn't lend me. He knew I'll went buy my fourth glass of Kakigori. Darn it! Oh well, I'll came again tomorrow hehehe

Went there at the afternoon on the next day because there will be fireworks as the closing ceremony. Right before the Bon Odori. It was a fantastic event! Too bad I didn't have digital camera at that time, tsk. But hopefully I shall remember this with my heart ;p

Zoom back to 1 week ago.

Jakarta Little Tokyo Ennichisai 2011

\(^o^)/ \(^o^)/ \(^o^)/

My friend sent me invitation via facebook. I asked RD to accompany me since going alone wouldn't be fun. Luckly she agreed. Yaaay!!!

The event only held for 2 days. We went at the second day, it was Sunday. Since me and RD, didn't wanna bumped into too many people, we decided to come early around 10AM. Too early I guess, not many booth has opened, everybody busy preparing this and that. So we took the time to look around.

it said this was the first dashi outside tokyo
I'm a little bit confused, to me dashi is some kind of soup or broth, tried to google it but found nothing, maybe there's so many dashi thing in Japan ;p
